Bion Tsang

CELLO

Internationally acclaimed cellist Bion Tsang has been recognized as one of the outstanding instrumentalists of his generation, earning major honors including an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Bronze Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Renowned for his rich artistry and commanding stage presence, Tsang has built a distinguished international career as both soloist and chamber musician.

His performances have brought him to major concert halls and festivals throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, appearing with orchestras including the Moscow Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with many of the world’s leading artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, James Ehnes, Pamela Frank, Leon Fleisher, Jaime Laredo, and Cho-Liang Lin, and has been a frequent guest at leading chamber music organizations and festivals including Marlboro Music, Camerata Pacifica, Da Camera of Houston, Bargemusic, and Chamber Music International.

Beyond the concert stage, Tsang has been featured on PBS’s *Great Performances: Now Hear This* series with Scott Yoo and received a Grammy nomination for his performance on *A Company of Voices: Conspirare in Concert*. His extensive discography includes acclaimed recordings of the Bach Solo Cello Suites, Beethoven and Brahms sonatas, and the Dvořák and Enescu cello concertos for Sony Classical.

A former child prodigy, Tsang made his professional debut at age eleven with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic. He later studied at Juilliard School, Harvard University, and Yale University under the legendary cellist Aldo Parisot.

Tsang currently serves as Division Head of Strings and holds the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long Chair in Cello at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music. He performs on a cello by Wayne Burak made in 2011.

Scott Yoo

VIOLIN

American conductor, violinist, and broadcaster Scott Yoo is internationally recognized for his dynamic musical leadership and wide-ranging career across orchestral performance, chamber music, recording, and media. He currently serves as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Mexico City Philharmonic and Music Director of Festival Mozaic.

Scott is widely known as the host and executive producer of the acclaimed PBS series Now Hear This, presented by Great Performances — the first American prime-time television series dedicated to classical music in over 50 years. Through the series, he brings audiences into the lives, histories, and creative worlds of major composers with an engaging and accessible approach to classical music storytelling.

As a conductor, Scott has appeared with leading orchestras throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, including the London Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, and L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music, having premiered dozens of new works by living composers and recorded extensively for labels including Sony Classical, Naxos, and Bridge Records.

Originally trained as a violinist, Scott has appeared as soloist with ensembles including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s, while also maintaining a deep commitment to chamber music performance and festival collaborations across the United States.

Born in Tokyo and raised in Connecticut, Scott studied at Harvard University and trained with legendary teachers including Dorothy DeLay and Michael Tilson Thomas. Alongside his international performing career, he remains deeply committed to music education, outreach, and expanding access to classical music for new audiences worldwide.

Ian Parker

PIANO

Canadian pianist and conductor Ian Parker is celebrated for his charismatic stage presence, expressive artistry, and engaging musical leadership. As both soloist and collaborative artist, he has performed with many of Canada’s leading orchestras, including the Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Victoria Symphonies, as well as the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Internationally, Ian has appeared with orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom. An active recitalist, he has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Israel, with appearances at venues including Lincoln Center in New York and the Morgan Library.

Alongside his performing career, Ian is deeply committed to music education and mentorship. He serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the VAM Symphony Orchestra at the Vancouver Academy of Music, where he works with emerging young musicians and leads performances at Vancouver’s historic Orpheum Theatre. He is also Artistic Director of the Resonate chamber music series at the Kay Meek Centre in North Vancouver.

Ian’s recordings include concertos by Ravel, Stravinsky, and Gershwin with the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as acclaimed recordings of Mozart concertos and solo piano repertoire. A First Prize winner at the CBC National Radio Competition, he has also received top honors at the Canadian National Music Festival and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition.

Born in Vancouver into a family of pianists, Ian began studying piano at age three with his father, Edward Parker. He earned both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School, studying with Yoheved Kaplinsky, and was awarded the prestigious Sylva Gelber Career Grant by the Canada Council for the Arts.
